Located at 259 Melrose St, Brooklyn, NY 11206, Obscure Coffee Roasters operates as a coffee shop serving Brooklyn in New York. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. Typical hours are 9 am–4 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. No phone number is listed for this business, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best route for directions and any contact details Google has on file. More information is available on its website, obscure.coffee.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 187 reviews, which is a strong result for a coffee shop in Brooklyn and suggests consistent service.

Brooklyn is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Brooklyn follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Lots of coffee shops in the area and this is the best by a mile, in my opinion. The drinks are reasonably priced and really delicious, and a good size for the cost. Their beans are really somethingβ€”the only time I went somewhere else nearby and really enjoyed my coffee, I discovered they were using Obscure beans! Atmosphere is nice and baristas are friendly and remember you, and the location is often staffed by the actual owner of the entire company (I only found this out when I tried to buy beans online and saw him). The guy is super nice. House-made vanilla syrup is awesome and the Masa Madre pastries are out of this world (best almond croissant ever). 10/10. I’d gatekeep but they deserve their flowers.

This cafe has an amazing selection of creative drinks that rotates seasonally and delicious local pastries. A great place to work and the baristas are kind and knowledgeable about their coffee beans. Visited Obscure after visiting Dayglow and Sey on the same day, and Obscure was 100x better. Their coffee selection and pour over technique was way better than the other two. I was able to taste all the notes listed on the coffee description, and it was a reasonable price! I had the Edinson Argote and the Edwin NoreΓ±a and they were amazing! Especially the Edinson Argote with its tart black cherry note that made my mouth water. Definitely recommend for pour over. I will be ordering their coffee in the near future.

Coffee Tasting Log 6 months ago

Enjoyed my experience at Obscure. A small neighborhood cafe/nano roaster that specializes in South American coffee beans. I ordered a pour-over with anaerobic, natural gesha from Peru ($12). It was brewed on a v60, well balanced, good clarity, yellow fruit juiciness. Maybe slightly over extracted but very tasty. The barista was very nice. They have a nice selection of beans from the roastery, and if you buy a bag you get a free espresso or drip coffee. I bought a bag and got an espresso. The espresso was a little sour for my taste but that’s not unusual for espresso made with lightly roasted beans. They have a case with pastries and sourdough doughnuts. Didn’t get to try any but they looked good.
